Planning a hen night can be a pretty scary experience. For some brides, the last night of freedom makes them go a little crazy, and the bachelorette party supplies need to reflect that fact. For others, it’s a quiet night down the pub with a glass of wine and then back home to bed before the groom even knows they’ve gone. As the hostess of a bachelorette party, it’s important to keep the bride in her place: she’s the queen of the hour but her friends are going to have some fun at her expense. Most of all, the bachelorette just wants to get out with her friends and have some fun; after all, if the bachelor’s off having the time of his life, why shouldn’t the bride act the same way?

Planning a bachelorette party takes time and patience; there are a lot of things to be considered, including venue; time of party, guests, themes and length of party. The hostess might consider the personality of the bride, and decide that a traditional hen night won’t suit her, and a better option might be a celebratory dinner, or a night at home with some good music and a few cocktails. It’s important to remember that, while a bachelor party is a traditionally debauched affair, a bachelorette can pretty much do as she wants: and if it is a horrible night, why go out? There are many different varieties of hen night: it might be a posh dinner and a few glasses of wine, followed by a visit to a local nightclub, or maybe the male strippers down the road, or it could be a late night start, hitting every bar in town and then staggering into the back of a massive limo, waking up next morning with a fearsome headache! That is going to take a lot of planning, so the hostess had best be prepared.

Bachelors and bachelorettes traditionally wear a t-shirt with their fate printed on it in big letters, although this can be radicalised for a bachelorette into a full tiara and veil (some of the tiaras available spell out the word ‘bachelorette’), and maybe even a sash or two. The bride might also like some mardi gras beads or a feather boa – these standards also come in racy adult versions; and of course no bachelorette party supplies list should leave off the obligatory candy garter belt – now all the hostess needs is someone to bite it off! Other members of the bride’s group can also wear sashes and feather boas, although this might detract from the bride’s costume – the hostess should consider what she thinks to be the best solution to that conundrum.

The bachelorette party is a fantastic excuse to bring out lots of tacky decorations – these can be traditional streamers and balloons, or more modern racy ‘adult’ themes. The hostess might go all out and ‘pimp’ the ride with a car decorating kit, or a “Purple pecker” centrepiece for the drinking table.

One thing that can be done at home before the big day is the party cake. Making it yourself ensures that it can be as naughty as possible – the bride-to-be wants a big ‘adult’ shape on her cake – the hostess can make it in a few hours with a suitable cake mould: there are also more friendly versions, including a ‘sexy man’ cake dish which will do the job. There are also cupcakes and cookie moulds that follow the same theme, so it the hostess enjoys baking, or knows a guest who does, then at least part of the celebrations are already organised – best see if someone can buy a book on naughty cake-making, and maybe top it off with a saucy cake decoration (perhaps the groom on a leash). Other, similar supplies include chocolate or jello-shot moulds that can create a giggle for virtually no effort at all. Some hen night parties opt to serve ‘pecker’ ice cube moulds too.

The hostess should not leave games off of her bachelorette party supplies list – there are plenty of things to do with the bachelorette before the strippergram arrives: “Pin the hose on the fireman”, or a penis piñata; trivia games, or a scavenger hunt – with a difference as it’s a bachelorette party. Something that has become a more popular gift in recent years is the bachelorette stripper pole, with lessons; the instructions don’t say how many drinks are needed before the girls will be ready to see if they can dance on the pole. There are also many card games, with both ‘adult’ cards, or a bar challenge set, or even some crazy games – the latter have become a staple of drinking games, as bachelorette partiers try and guess what another player is about to say. There are now several variations of this game, and hostesses should seriously consider getting one for their group.

Another thing to consider is whether it would be more sensible to purchase all of the bachelorette party supplies as one kit: there are a wide variety of kits available, for both drunken nights in, and drunken nights out – party balloons, banners, and a selection of other treats keeps the bride-to-be on her toes. Certainly, if the hostess has her doubts about planning the whole thing, or if it’s a last-minute party, then she could do worse than buy a bachelorette party supplies kit.

Bachelorette parties are now nearly as common as bachelor parties, and there is somewhat of a competition between the bride and groom to be the most debauched. The hostess of the bachelorette party should be responsible at all times, in order to make sure that the bride manages to get to her wedding safely the next day. A big drinking session might seem like a fun idea, but the groom might not be amused by the hangover the next day; and if the hostess provides a good night out, with no problems, then not only will she have a good friend in the bride, but a very grateful groom, too.
