For some people in the world, Hanukkah is one of the most fun parts of the year, when families gather, friends get together, and people seem just a little bit more sensitive to one another’s feelings and emotions. It is a wonderful time for celebrating and throwing parties. Don’t worry, throwing a Hanukkah party is not as hard as it seems. After all, people have been doing it for years! All it takes is a little knowledge of the best Hanukkah party supplies and you’ll be on your way to throwing one of the best Hanukkah parties around!

Consider what you want your invitations to look like. You won’t be seeing any guests at your party if you don’t give out invitations. You should also think about how you are going to decorate for your party. Will you use paper plates, napkins, and cups, or should you dish out the good, ceramic plates? These are details that you need to work out before you proceed in planning any party.

“You are Invited to a Party!”

Try to concentrate on making your invitations as friendly as possible. Be witty and fun-loving, as well as welcoming and informational. If you want to incorporate a Hanukkah image on your card, that will work just fine. You can use a dreidel or a menorah, or any other Hanukkah-related object.

You can use the lyrics to a Hanukkah song to invite your guests to your party, leading into your event information from the song. This is a great way to get your guests’ attention and get them to notice the information you have posted on the invite. If you choose to use a single page for your invitation, this is especially useful as you can simply have the lyrics and party info easily accessible to your guests’ eyes.

Feel free to make even the envelopes your own! You can use Hanukkah stickers to decorate them or use colored pencil to write Hanukkah phrases on them.

Decorations

Your Hanukkah party decorations can be fun and bright, bringing all the cheerfulness of celebrating together in one area. You can use paper plates that say “Happy Hanukkah” on them, as well as placing matching tablecloths on your tables and using cups and napkins that go with the theme. These items can easily be found at your nearest department store and are fairly inexpensive.

Streamers, of course, are a great decorative tool for any party, Hanukkah parties not exempt. Whatever your color theme is for the party, find crepe paper streamers in those tones and twist them together to form long strings that you can attach to the corners of your ceilings. Do this twice so that your strings crisscross each other in the middle. Cut longer pieces of streamer paper to hang in your doorways, along table edges, or to wrap around furniture items not already decorated, such as your stair banisters or dining room table chairs.

An alternative to streamers can be link chains made of paper. These are festive, can be utilized in a number of different ways, and offer a different kind of decoration from the usual types. All you need is lots of paper and a stapler, tape, or glue, to keep the links together. You can make these chains to be as long or short as you want. Hang them from fireplaces, from stair cases, from one wall to another, slink them around furniture, or snake them around the tops of tables. Experiment with these simple and wonderful little decorations and you might come up with some ideas yourself!

Your centerpiece can be your family’s menorah or a design of the Star of David. You can even make your own Menorah by filling tall and wide glasses with smooth stones and gems, placing a taper candle in each one. Use your imagination for creating this piece. Make it fun and full of life. Your guests will surely be impressed and it will set off the rest of your decorations.

Treats

You can have treats or snacks available for your Hanukkah party guests. These can include anything from vegetable trays to baskets of cookies. For the kids, you can make cardboard dreidels and fill them with treats or candies such as peanuts.

Little marshmallow dreidels are cute, mess-free, and can be put into little gift boxes for the younger guests. You can order these from certain delicatessen companies or try to make your own from home. For these little beauties, cover your clean scissors in non-stick cooking spray, then snip the mallows into square shapes with the scissors. Dip the square marshmallows into a dish of nonpareils, finishing by sticking a wooden skewer into them. These are sure to delight and are easy and fun to make!

Hanukkah-inspired cookies are always a hit at Hanukkah parties. Don’t let your party miss the boat! You can use sugar cookie dough to easily cut out Hanukkah shapes, like dreidels or Menorahs or shapes of the Star of David. Using icing made from scratch with powder sugar and milk, or pre-made icing from the store, frost the cookies with different colors and flavors of icing. You can use sprinkles or different icing to draw details on the cookies.

Cinnamon applesauce can be a great treat for your guests. It can be served after dinner as dessert, on the side of your meal, or even as a snack. All it takes is 7-8 apples and some cinnamon. Bake them all together and eat! It really is that simple!

Now you have plenty of ideas to get started brainstorming for your Hanukkah party. Use your imagination and your creativity, have fun, and remember what Hanukkah is all about.
