The legend of the stock car has its roots during the Prohibition era when moonshiners tried to out run the legal authorities. This was accomplished by utilizing souped up vehicles at that time to avoid being caught and prosecution. Generally, a stock car is a vehicle that has been modified so that the speed of the vehicle is optimized. In addition, certain types of wheels are used in order to maintain traction on the track.
