For those that grew up with more traditional sports, like baseball and basketball, soccer is new to the scene, but for most kids today, they grew up with it and it is a very popular sport today.

For that reason, when it comes time to plan a party for a special event, parties designed around a soccer theme is a popular way to make a special occasion that much more fun and special for everyone involved.

The only limit to finding ways to include the soccer theme in all aspects of the party is your own imagination. A good place to start is to include the kid in the planning of the party (unless it’s a surprise)

Start with the list of invitees, which will help you determine your overall budget and thus how much you can allocate to buy the supplies that will link up to the soccer theme. Once you have the list, it’s time toe think about creating the invitations. Invitations can be made out of paper soccer balls, or drawings of nets, for example. There are a lot of different creative ways to create soccer cards. You can start by compiling a stack of your dramatic photographs of soccer being played. You can photocopy one photo and use it for all the invites or you can use a different site for each invitee.

These photos have other purpose for the party as well. They can be used to decorate the space where the party is being held, as placeholders for a table, as napkin rings and in a number of other ways as well. The same can be done with soccer equipment, like miniature version of uniforms and cleats. Think about inventive ways to integrate special aspects of the activity into the party and its planning and preparation. Following are some common steps in planning and holding parties, and ways in which you can integrate soccer related themes into the process, so that you can make the party a memorable one for everybody.

Whether you make your own invitation cards or buy some from the store, they will need to include certain details. These details should include the occasion of the party, the date, and time, and what if any instructions you wish to provide about gift giving. You will also want to provide RSVP information. Or you can take a different soccer action photograph and hand write the details of the party on to the photograph, before folding it and putting it in an envelope for mailing. Whatever choice you make, let kids know through the invitation what if any actual soccer activities you plan to hold during the party, and whether they should bring their balls and cleats and other equipment to the party.

Soccer parties don’t have to include actual soccer, but some do, and are held at special facilities designed for soccer, or at parks where soccer is allowed. If you plan to go this route, just make sure that there is a backup plan if the weather makes soccer impossible. And if outdoors, make sure to plan whether you want to add music to the equation. If a public park or space, think about any issues that might come up with music that gets to loud for the comfort of others around.

Once you have the place for the party, you want to think about how to decorate the space for the party. Again, photographs are very useful in bringing the theme into a room in the house, if that’s where the party is being held. If you plan an outdoor party, there are specially made balloon and streamers with soccer themes that can be used to help people get in the spirit.

At the party itself, think about how to integrate the theme in to all the various parts of a typical party. Some of the things to think about are plates, cups, silverware, table cloths. All of these items can be purchased with soccer related themes on them. Cakes can always be made to represent the theme as well. Your local cake maker can give you ideas, but soccer cakes are common at these types of parties. You can also think about making rounded top cupcakes with a soccer ball design on top.

The theme can carry through to food and drinks for the party as well. Think about the foods and drinks associated with soccer and you are half way there. For example, sports drinks are often associated with sports of all kinds. And piñatas are always popular at kids’ parties. Soccer-ball shaped piñatas are readily available. Soccer is a stadium sport, so any foods associated with stadiums, like hot dogs, peanuts, cotton candy will all work.

If you do plan for soccer games, think about different soccer competitions or ways of organizing the soccer so that everyone can participate and enjoy that part of the party. You can get small “trophies” out of cookies frosted to look like soccer balls, or get special ribbons for the occasion as well. These can be handed for winners of soccer related competitions.

There are also games that can be devised, which are variations of other games, such as passing races, or distance kicking competition, or accuracy competitions. You can also consider hanging a soccer or soccer stadium piñata.

If you are not planning outdoor soccer events, or the weather does not permit it, you can always plan to view movies that have soccer as a major component, or show DVDs of famous soccer games.

Parties often include favors for the attendees to take home with them as a keepsake from the event. Sometimes these are baked goods, and sometimes they are practical items that carry the theme. You can get miniature soccer and paint the name of the child on the board. Or you can get miniaturized versions of soccer key chains or wristbands.

Kids everywhere have longed loved soccer and many kids and parents alike have fun designing parties around the theme of soccerAgain, with enough planning and the right source for a few soccer party items, all that’s left to get is a bunch of kids and a reason for a party!
